In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Month, I’m sharing from our 100 Words Project every day.
My beautiful daughter latched on immediately. The LCs were astounded and I was smug. Then it started to hurt. For three weeks the pain was horrible, so bad in my right breast that my husband had to latch her on for me so I wouldn’t jerk away. I thought of formula but I was too ashamed to try it. Then, it stopped and then, it became wonderful. The feel of her skin on my skin, her tiny hand in my hair, like we were one body. I can’t imagine not doing it, not having that amazing feeling, that connection with my child.
