In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week and National Breastfeeding Month, I’m sharing from our 100 Words Project every day.
Breastfed 4 children, now ages 12, 6, 5, 4. First breastfed 2.5 years. Second and third weaned at 4 months when I got pregnant again – were not gaining enough weight and I had less milk. Fourth breastfed till 18 months, and became the most traumatized by weaning and most attached to me. Several years to reclaim maternal closeness with babies two and three, as dad became primary caregiver and bottlefed during subsequent pregnancies. Loved breastfeeding; could never perform for pump. The kids still love on my belly – I don’t let them play with my breasts.
