On my Bucket List, firmly in the Top #5…participate in a Flash Mob!
Here’s the thing about a flash mob: people, different abilities, different levels of knowledge about dancing and singing, different jobs, different ages…all coming together for one purpose. Most times that purpose is just plain ol’ fun.
It is all about community.
I had a rather idyllic experience with community when I was growing up. It is only in the past year or so that I have realized that what I experienced wasn’t like the growing up experiences of those around me. I didn’t know at the time how unique the situation was in our small town community. To this day, I could rattle off a dozen people, who in a time of crisis, I could call in a heartbeat. There just was always this sense that someone had your back.
Don’t you wish ever breastfeeding mama knew that someone had their back? Even better, that a whole community had her back?
Even, and maybe even more so, when I screwed up, made mistakes and felt like a failure…
Don’t you wish every breastfeeding mama felt that way? That she wouldn’t feel judged, criticized and discouraged by those around her but rather that they were there, cheering her on?
Imagine with me for a moment. A mama, just after she’s finds out that she’s going to have a baby…she hears the music start. A friend calls to tell her “I believe in you. You can do this.” As the pregnancy progresses, the crowd grows, encourages, acts like a bunch of loyal cheerleaders. By the time baby arrives, there is a whole group of people dancing like crazy to help her meet her goals and to settle into motherhood! Can’t you just see the nurses at the hospital cruising down the hall singing “Don’t Stop Believing…that YOU CAN DO THIS!” (my apologies to Journey’s brilliant lyricist).
Flash Mobs for Mamas. Seriously…amazing.
Do you feel like you had a Flash Mob to cheer you on?
Whose Flash Mob could you join?

I clicked through because I hoped you were organizing a flash mob!! Because being in one is totally on my bucket list, too. But– oh, I could have used a breastfeeding flash mob, especially with my first child, but even with my second and third, too. New moms need all the cheerleading they can get.

Hi,
I found your blog via Hoco blogs-
Flashmobs are pretty incredible. I had the pleasure of being in the one at the Columbia Mall back in December.
All new mom’s need people to break out into song, I knew if that happened to me I would have felt a billion time more excited about my pregnancy. I’m sort of feeling like I should go do that!
If you wanted to read about my flash mob experience, you can read about it here.

Best part was there was s family that got trapped in the middle of it–I would have loved to be closer to that family just to see their face and their reactions.

Hi!!! I found you through the Breastfeeding Blog Hop! Thank you so much for visiting my blog!
I use Twitter as my Mama Flash Mob! How awesome is it that if I need some support, I can throw it out there and in no time there’s warm, encouraging words from Mama’s all over!! If I need tips on increasing my milk supply or just want to complain about how my son always manages to bite me even though he only has two teeth, I look up my Mob! 🙂

I agree with Brie- Twitter is totally my Flash Mob. I spend a lot of time on Twitter while I pump at work and often while nursing and I love to throw out my fears and questions and get a pretty immediate response. My favorite flash Mob? Google Do-Re-Mi train Station- I cry every.single.time. I watch it. Which is at least once a week.
