I’ve long been a fan of memoirs…my favorite genre by far. Mostly because the little glimpses of someone’s life help me to understand the whole. Sometimes when I look at the “glimpses” without their contexts as a whole, I don’t understand, because the experience is so unlike mine. But taken together, as I hope you take all the stories in the project, they show a beauty and a strength in the mamas I am hearing from. I hope you enjoy these glimpses this evening.
If you would like to submit your own glimpse of your breastfeeding journey in 100 words of less, please email me at amber@ambermccann.com.

From Lori:
I was determined to breastfeed, and neither a sleepy baby with poor latch nor a supply slow to come in would stop me. We (me and my loving, supportive husband) supplemented via feeding tube for the first three weeks, and finally things clicked. Some don’t breastfeed because they say it’s too hard, but I think nothing is easier than having breastmilk ready to go, no prep required! At five months, I feel our journey is just beginning – only recently did I start nursing in public! We can’t stop yet!
From Mindi:
When I was in my early twenties just the thought of breastfeed made me gag. Why would a woman want to do that? Thankfully I also did not want children then. Now that I am mature (30), I have learned so much, breastfeeding being one of those things. My daughter was born in February 2011 and from the first latch to almost 5 months later, it’s one of the greatest decisions I have ever made. She eats and makes a noise that sounds like mmm, melts my heart. We now have a healthy 16lb baby girl thanks to my milk.
From Rebecca:
A short list of things I have nursed: Baby Doll, a sheet of paper, a stuffed seahorse, a spoon, teddies, an iPod, small cars, small trains, a shoe, a tiny George-monkey, several books, a board book about nursing, three plastic dinosaurs and a large stuffed dog named Ludwig. An even shorter list of the people I have nursed: Catherine and Esme. The first had her time alone, then learned to share quickly. The second was an eager student of the elder. What a bond between sisters! With Papa’s love and Mama’s milk our girls grow. I pray that they remember.
