100 Words: Chapter 2

From Alissa:

The first time, there in the candlelit room where I had labored for twenty-two hours, labored with purpose and patience and expectation… middle of the night feedings where I would just sit there and marvel over him… waking up to him laying there beside me nursing in his dreams, barely even register offering my breast to him before I went back to snuggled up sleep… the first time he signed ‘nurse’ to me and how my heart swelled… him running to me saying “Nursies!” and nursing standing up for 27 seconds and then running back to the slide laughing.

Leigh Ann shares Nana’s story:

When Phoebe was a baby we took her to visit one of her great-grandmother’s, Rob’s Nana. She loved that I was nursing Phoebe. This is the story she shared: in Italy in Nana was a wet nurse. First she had Giuseppe, then a tragedy in the village left a baby boy orphaned, his grandfather approached Viola, “Please feed my grandson your good milk” and she did. Then came Maria and an older neighbor approached Viola “I am too old, please feed my baby your good milk” and she did. Nana had three of her own children but she nursed five.

From Joanna:
I just talked with a friend tonight who was having serious nursing issues with her newborn. She ended up taking her daughter to a chiropractor, where they discovered some very tight muscles in her neck and shoulders that were attributing to frustration when nursing, due to positioning. They did some treatments, and all has resolved.
I have worked in early childhood for many years, worked as an early interventionist, nursed 6 kids of my own, and am best friends with a lactation consultant. This is the first time I have ever heard of using a chiropractor, but it sure makes sense.
